Innovative Approaches to Invasive Species Management and Sustainable Livelihoods

ICC supports community women to participate in the Community-Based Adaptation Conference held annually. This platform enables grassroots representation and knowledge exchange on locally led climate and conservation solutions.

Supported participants have showcased an innovative practice of producing eco-friendly briquettes from Ipomoea, an invasive plant species that has significantly degraded grasslands and threatened the livelihoods of pastoralist communities.

Building on this innovation, ICC also presented this approach to Conservation International, highlighting its potential as a scalable, community-driven solution for managing invasive species while supporting sustainable livelihoods.

This initiative contributes to:

  1. Control and management of invasive species, helping to restore native grasslands.
  2. Ecosystem restoration by reducing the spread of harmful plant species.
  3. Sustainable energy alternatives, reducing reliance on charcoal and wood fuel.
  4. Women’s economic empowerment through green entrepreneurship.
  5. Knowledge sharing and influence by contributing local solutions to global conservation discussions.

By transforming an environmental challenge into an economic opportunity, ICC is promoting nature-based solutions that integrate conservation with livelihoods, while also elevating local innovations to regional and global platforms.
